1. Ensure your builder contractor is affiliated to an approved body such as the Federation of Master Builders, Guild of Master Craftsmen, Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings.
2. Check whether their staff are trained and certified.
3. Are they punctual and well presented?
4. Did their quote arrive on time? Was it accurate, detailed and broken down into manageable sections?
5. Are they registered with Corgi or NICEIC? Do they specify using Corgi or NICEIC contractors?
6. Do they specialise in their field or are they general builders?
7. Are their vehicles clean, tidy and organised? Are they proud of their appearance? If so, they will be proud of their work.
8. Check their references; speak to their current and past clients.
9. Are they CRB checked (Who are you letting in to your house)?
10. Is their work guaranteed?
